How do I install Lync?

Lync should automatically be installed on all IOD-Owned Machines. To manually install Lync, follow these instructions: http://tcskb.unh.edu/content/microsoft-lync

Is there a Mac version of Lync?

Yes, please follow these instructions to download the Mac version of Lync: http://tcskb.unh.edu/content/mac-os-x

What are some of the new features of Lync?

Lync has several new features, including:

  • Whiteboard collaboration
  • Polls
  • PowerPoint and desktop sharing
  • Scheduling through Outlook
  • Participants can join via Phone, their Browser, or Office Communicator
  • A Mobile client

Can I get Lync on my Mobile Phone?

Yes, there is a version of Lync out for Windows Phone, Android, iOS, and BlackBerry devices.

How do I make the contacts list appear like Office Communicator?

To your condense your contacts list and remove your contacts' pictures, click on the Display options Display Options Button icon, and then select Name View from the menu, as shown in the picture below.

How do I update my photo in Lync and Outlook?

How do I schedule a meeting in Outlook using Lync?

While in the Calendar or Mail view, select the Home tab and click on the New Items item, and select Online Meeting

Participants in the meeting can join via Lync, Office Communicator, phone, or via their browser using the silverlight client (free).

Is it possible to view all IOD Staff in the contacts list?

Yes. In the Find a contact field, type IOD - All Members, then right click the list, and select Add to Contacts List. You will now have a group that shows all staff on the IOD - All Members distribution list.

Tip: You can do the same thing with your individual businesss units/teams if they have mailing lists.

Can I chat with Gmail users?

Yes. Just type the user's gmail address in the Find a Contact field, and message them. They will get a notification that you have invited them to a chat, which they need to accept before you can start chatting with them.

Note: You Lync window will display an error message saying {contact} could not be reached and this message was not delivered:.  Once they accept the request to chat with you, you will be able to send them messages without this error message.

What is the maximum number of participants that can be on a Lync group meeting?

UNH IT currently has this number set to 50.

Can I record a Lync Session?

Yes. To record a Lync session, click on the actions menu, then click start recording. This will record all activity by default (voice, video, etc...). If you would like to only record certain components of your Lync Conversation, click on Settings > Recording Options. You can review recorded sessions under Actions > Manage Recordings menu. If you do not see a menubar, click on the gear and select Show Menu Bar.
