Outlook reports incorrect mailbox quota/space used information

Soemtimes, Outlook may report your quota information in the bottom-left hand corner incorrectly. For example, it may report that you have only a few MB free, even though you have just archived a bunch of email.

Outlook Quota Info

There are two possible causes to this problem:

  • You have not actually archived email correctly, OR
  • Outlook is using Cached Exchange Mode, and your cache is out of date and needs to be updated

If the problem is that you are using Cached Exchange Mode, then you need to update the cache:

To temporarily disable Cached Exchange Mode, in Outlook, click File > Info > Account Settings > Account Settings. Select the Email tab, select your account from the list, and click Change... on the menu bar.

Uncheck the box that says "Use Cached Exchange Mode", click Next, click Finish, and then restart Outlook.

Your quota information should now be correctly displayed. Please repeat these steps to re-enable cached exchange mode.
